24 de Marzo. Día Nacional de la Memoria por la Verdad y la Justicia

March 24th is The national day of memory for truth and justice in Argentina.
After the military coup in 1976 30.000 dissidents were abducted and killed for their opinions. And 500 babies were taken away from their families and to this day only 105 of them has been identified and reconciled with their families.
Some of the babies were taken and given to richer families and others were kept my the militants themself. Hearing the stories from some of these kids, now in their late 30s, is horrible! The confusion of being raised and loved by the person who killed their parents and violently took them away from their family... when they found out, many of them wouldn't even believe it. They felt shame and guilt because of their background and because they felt they had disappointed their military parents, cause remeber they grew up supporting the military and everything it stands for. Stockholm syndrome in full action...
The abuelas de plaza de mayo are the grandmothers of the babies and mothers of the people that were killed in the massive genocide that occurred in the years under the military dictatorship. the mothers and grandmothers of plaza De Mayo came together in the search for their loved ones and they are still fighting for justice. Their shawls has become a symbol of courage to fight for human rights and their endurance to never forget or give up.

Victims of state terrorism

It has in the later years been set up a foundation where the grandmothers and mothers has given their DNA so that people who are suspicious of being one of the kidnapped kids can go there and see if they find a match. If they do, they are bound by law to be reconnected with their family. I strongly recommend to read more about this...

On march 24th the streets are filled with people demonstrating and fronting their political conviction. It was a very moving and memorable experience.... Take a look...

Bienvenidos! :D
Is it ever a boring week in Buenos Aires? NO! why would you ask that?? :D i have taken the more chill and cultural path this week. well... chill is the wrong word.... :P
On saturday we went to Casa Rosada, the beautiful pink building is located on Plaza de Mayo, you can easily imagine Evita proclaiming to the people on the lower balcony :) It was really amazing seeing it from the inside, beautiful art, furnitures, images of previous presidents and other important characters in Argentinian history. And the presidents office of course! :D :D We also went to Museo del Bicentario which is located underground behind Casa Rosado and it holds the different eras of Argentinas political history told through videos, paintings, photographs and personal belongings of those who governed Argentina at the different times. We continued our day following our empty tummies to an international food feria on avenida de mayo, eating yummy food from all corners of the world :) DELICIOUS!!

On sunday I went to the feria on Placa Francia with my girl Anna, it was a beautiful day for chilling on the grass, drinking mate and listening to reggae. Does it get any better than that? :D
On monday it was raining the entire day and night monsoon style! crazy! And i was attacked by a bat in the comfort of my own home. scaaaaary!!
So that masomenos sums up my week :)
